modern London wedding - Islington Town Hall

bride and groom receive joyful congratulations at the Islington Town Hall, London

I capture all the emotions of your wedding day

I absolutely love city weddings - the architecture, the city life, the sofistication of a modern couple who chooses to get married in their beloved city. Whether it’s London, New York or Barcelona - I’m here to capture it all. So when Dioni and James asked if I could photograph their intimate London wedding in the early spring, I immediately said yes, especially that they’ve chosen one of my favourite town halls - the Islington one.

Islington Town Hall Wedding

Islington Town Hall is located at the very fashionable Upper Street in, well, Islington, north London. This gorgeously impressive listed building, with its grand façade and sweeping marble staircase, provides an elegant setting for any ceremony, not to mention a stylish backdrop for your photographs. I adore it. It’s worth mentioning that the registrars are super nice too :-)

Dioni and James chose the Council Chamber - it’s the largest and the most grand room in Islington Town Hall. Imagine red carpets, a vaulted ceiling and stained glass windows. It’s simply gorgeous and I love it, because it offers space also for a photographer to move around, I don’t have to be squeezed in a corner, I can move to capture the Bride’s walk down the isle, then move to photograph the couple from the back, from the sides - and all of it, being discreet and not in everyone’s faces ;-) The Council Chamber (and the whole Islington Town Hall!) ticks all the boxes for me (from the wedding photographers perspective) - lots of natural light, wood panelling, space and of course the gorgeous staircase.

But before I show you the ceremony photos, let’s have a look at the getting ready moment. I love capturing bridal preparations - these moments of calm (sometimes - moments of tension! Not with Dioni though), the sisterhood of bridesmaids and the mother of the bride helping each other, working as a team to prepare the bride in her rite of passage. It’s beautiful and meaningful. Please, please ask you photographer to capture that for you!

Ok, here are some photos from Dioni’s getting ready morning (it was full of calm and laughter and there was lots of food too!)

the ceremony

The ceremony at Islington Town Hall was sweet and short - we had two readings, some tears and the most beautiful first kiss. It felt quintessentially modern and elegant.

and then off we went to celebrate with style! (thing jazz club meets clubbing with friends and family. Plus the speeches of course)

So - what do you think? It’s a good town hall, isn’t it?
