wedding in an Italian castle

Caitlin and Christopher travelled all the way from the US to host a wedding at Castello Vicchiomaggio in the heart of the Chianti region of Italy and I was invited to document it all. It wasn’t my first time in Chianti, I shoot quite a few weddings there every year, but it was my first time in Castello Vicchiomaggio and oh boy did I love it!

destination wedding in Chianti, Italy

The Chianti region in Italy, also referred to as Monti del Chianti ("Chianti Mountains") or Colline del Chianti ("Chianti Hills"), is a gorgeous, mountainous area of Tuscany in the provinces of Florence, Siena and Arezzo. It is best known for its beauty and of course, the wine - the famously delicious Chianti. The whole Tuscany, but Chianti in particular is just a dreamy region - vineyards, centuries old olive groves, hills drawn with cypress trees, the perfect weather, the misty mornings, the picturesque tiny villages and restaurants in the middle of nowhere offering the most heartfelt meals, with the views to die for. I mean - I’m in love and I’m taking my family there this summer, because they also have to experience that. But, let’s circle back to Caitlin and Christopher and their Chianti castle wedding. Their nearest and dearest flew from Florida to celebrate not only their love to each other, but also - their love for Italy.

wedding reception at Castello Vicchiomaggio

If you are looking for a romantic setting for your wedding, where you r family can relax by the pool a day before and after, this castle is literally - perfection!

Castello Vicchiomaggio dates back to the 14th century and has been beautifully restored, preserving its historic charm and character. The surrounding farm produces the best wine for you to enjoy during the reception at the expanses of internal courtyard and terraces overlooking the Tuscan hills. The castle's restaurant offers delicious local cuisine, using fresh, local ingredients to create unforgettable meals for you and your guests and don’t even get me started on the wine tasting opportunities here :-)

And for my fellow wedding photographers - there’s nothing like the golden hour in Italy. I repeat - n o t h i n g !!

As a destination wedding photographer I love nothing more than to photograph weddings in Italy - this image shows the happy bride and groom, minutes before cutting their delicious wedding cake - the iconic Italian Millefoglie

Millefoglie, anyone? It’s a traditional Italian wedding cake and please believe me when I tell you that it’s just the most deliciously gorgeous cake you can imagine. Caitlin and Christopher not only cut it for their guests, but they also helped arranging it, which was a great show and of course - a photo opportunity.
