intimate wedding at islington town hall, london
Carina and Kosa wanted a small, intimate wedding (aka micro wedding) - a Town Hall ceremony witnessed by the closest family and friends - their favourite people. Islington Town Hall is a perfect location for such plans - it’s simultaneously laid back and elegant. Probably more elegant, than laid back, but it has different sized rooms, to suit your wedding - whether it’s big or small. It’s based on fashionable Upper Street and it’s beautiful listed building provides an elegant setting for your ceremony, and of course - a wonderful backdrop for the photographs! If you want to check it out yourself, here’s the London town hall of your dreams.
The wedding ceremony was sweet and touching and it was followed by a confetti moment on the grand steps of the Town Hall (I just love the confetti shots, scroll down to have a look). We then slowly strolled the charming streets of Islington (towards Angel), taking photos and chatting. The atmosphere was so joyous, especially that it was supposed to rain the whole day but instead we had the glorious sun and warmth. (not that common in London.. I can see a good tip opportunity here, so - when eloping in London - ignore the weather forecast but be prepared for almost anything!)
Carina and Kosa’s intimate wedding reception was just the proof that you can have a wedding of your dreams on a budget, without spending thousands and thousands for the right venue and caterers (not that there’s anything wrong with that! But if you want a small, intimate wedding, with just the right amount of personality - you can do this too! I’m a big fan of micro weddings, so do contact me if you need a small wedding photographer in London)
But let’s go back to this particular London elopement. When we reached Angel, we turned into the Culpeper Community Garden. Have you ever been there? It’s magnificent! A true “secret garden” in the centre of London.
And what followed, I can only call “the best wedding picnic ever”
What? Wedding picnic, you say? Brilliant idea, isn’t it? You only need a blanket, a few bottles of something bubbly, a cake delivered and you’re ready to have a wonderful wedding picnic. It’s an idea for those who want a small, intimate wedding, or even an elopement (after the ceremony, your friends can join you in the park, not even knowing that they are going to be your wedding guests!)
And Carina looked stunning in her vintage Grace Kelly-inspired cream wedding gown.
Have a look yourself!
And if you’re also planning an intimate wedding, or maybe a city elopement - do get in touch, I’d love to hear from you! You can click here and it will take you to my contact me page :-)
I thought I’d write a bit about the idea of a so called micro wedding and why is it a nice idea, even after the world recovers from the pandemic. I really believe that the smaller weddings are a trend to stay and me as a London based wedding photographer - couldn’t be happier about it! (don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with a big wedding ceremony for 250 people, if that’s what you want. But “want” is a key word here - some people want that and some just want to exchange their vows in the presence of their closest circle. Or even just the partners, the celebrant and a witness? (the good news is that an elopement wedding photographer can be a witness too! Many engaged couples take this opportunity and let me tell you - I would always be more than happy to be your witness and photographer at the same time. I love the intimacy and authenticity of a small wedding and elopement. Just the lovers!)
An elopement wedding photographer can be your witness, but he/she can be your guide as well. I can guide you through the planning process, as my knowledge of wedding related things is probably way bigger than yours (I mean, I’ve been in the wedding photography business for years now and have met a lot of celebrants, make up artists, dress makers, florists and I’m always happy to share my contact list and recommend a wedding supplier.
The micro wedding (or a minimony) trend is embraced not only by best London wedding photographers (well, the whole UK, really, from what I’m seeing) but by hotels and venues as well! They all offer a micro wedding packages and cater to the smallest of your wedding needs. If you follow this link, it will take you to another micro wedding that I had the pleasure to photograph in London and it’s also an excellent example how venues cater to the new minimony trend. (the couple got married in a town hall and then took their closest friends for lunch in Fenchurch Restaurant in the Sky Gardens, London. It was elegant, delicious and unforgettable, have a look: Sky Gardens micro wedding )
